Campus items carry a "Campus" pin in the feed. Open one and tap Buy, or Make an offer. You sign in with Apple the first time. You pay in the app with iDEAL, Apple Pay or a card, through our payment provider Stripe. The money is held, not sent to the seller. Message the seller within 48 hours to agree a time and meet at their handover spot, which you see once you have paid. At the meeting, scan the seller's code (or type its 6 digits), check the item, and tap Accept. Only then is the seller paid.
The item price plus a service fee of €1.00 + 5 % of the price. For a €20 item you pay €22. The price you see in the feed already includes the fee, and the receipt shows both lines. Sellers pay nothing and receive their full asking price.
Yes. If no handover happens within 5 days of paying, you get everything back automatically. If the item isn't right at the meeting, tap Hand it back instead of Accept and you get everything back. If you cancel before meeting, you get everything back except €1.00, which covers the payment cost — unless the seller hadn't replied to you within 48 hours, then it's free. If the seller marked the item as handed over and something is wrong, tap Report a problem within 48 hours: the money stays on hold and we decide whether to refund you in full or pay the seller. Once you tap Accept, the sale is done, so check the item first. The full rules are in the terms.
Items that aren't from campus open on the original site, such as eBay or Etsy. You buy there, under that site's terms and buyer protection; ThriftUp takes no payment for them. If the item sold in the meantime, the app tells you and shows similar pieces.
Go to Messages (the leftmost tab), tap Selling, then Become a seller. Give your first name, pick a handover spot on the map and agree to the seller rules. Then list an item with 1–5 photos, the brand, size and price. Every listing is checked by a person before it goes live. When something sells, set up payouts once on Stripe's own page (name, date of birth, address and IBAN — ThriftUp never sees them); you need this before the handover. You're paid once the buyer accepts the item. The money goes to your bank once you have €25 ready, your first sale right away, and never later than 50 days after the handover.
The seller gets a reminder after 24 hours. After 48 hours of silence, you can cancel for a full refund. Sellers who go silent or cancel a paid sale get a warning, and three warnings pause all their listings.
On a campus item, tap Report this listing. In a conversation, use the ··· menu (or long-press a message) to report or block the person. Reports reach us immediately and we act on them within 24 hours. You can also email info@thrift-up.com. Sellers and rights holders can use the same address for takedown requests.
In the app: open the Saved tab, tap My filters, then Account → Delete account. It happens straight away. Any order that hasn't reached the handover yet is called off and the buyer gets a full refund, whoever deletes; the other person is told. If an order is already past the handover, it settles within 48 hours and you can delete after that. Order records are kept for 7 years for Dutch tax law. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account. Details in the privacy policy.
The sizes you chose during onboarding are applied to your whole feed. To change them, open the Saved tab and tap "My filters". If a chat search left a filter on, remove its tag at the top of the feed or tell the chat "clear the filter".
From the items you save, and from what you skip. Your sizes and your standing rules (for example "never show me this brand") are applied on top.
Yes — attach a photo in the chat. It is analysed on our servers to find visually similar or matching pieces and then discarded; search photos are never stored. Text searches are read by an AI service (Groq, USA), so don't include personal details.
In iOS Settings → Notifications → ThriftUp. Notifications are used for offers, messages, sales and your orders, and for things like an item you saved being sold; never for marketing.
You can browse without an account. Payment details and sellers' bank details go to Stripe, never to us. No ads, no tracking across apps, no data sold. Everything is in the privacy policy.
No. ThriftUp is an independent app that links to public listings on other marketplaces. Purchases, shipping and buyer protection for those items are handled by the marketplace you buy on.
